This is a particularly hardy evergreen variety which has a more upright habit than most. The handsome leaves are narrow and light green and rusty brown underneath. Large, cup-shaped, fragrant, creamy-white blooms are produced from late summer to early autumn, and it will produce flowers when young. Is superb grown as a specimen shrub.

Prefers full sun / part shade and will tolerate most soils.

Magnolia ‘Iolanthe’

A broad-spreading small tree producing an abundance of large, soft pink, bowl-shaped blooms which become paler on the inside. The flowers have a heavy texture and face outwards. It is among the most easily recognised magnolias in bud with masses of huge hairy perules pointing outwards at various angles during early spring, then bursting into flower.

Prefers full sun / part shade and a moist soil.

Malus ‘Gorgeous’

This small tree has large, slender white flowers that have a star shaped appearance. The flowers burst open from pink buds in spring and are followed by glossy, red crab apple fruits that are sometimes orange tinted in autumn. The large fruits are produced in abundance and persist well on the tree. The dark green foliage turns yellow/bronze in the autumn before falling. Great for crabapple jelly!

Molinia ‘Transparent’

The late summer flowers of this deciduous grass have a light, open habit, which creates a gossamer haze above the foliage. Therefore, it’s ideal for weaving through a mixed or herbaceous border, where the purple, feathery spikelets will create gentle movement as they catch every breeze. It will flourish on most soils as long as they are not too dry, and its interest lasts well into winter.

Prefers semi-shade or full sun in a moist but free draining soil.

Nandina ‘Sunset Boulevard’

This compact evergreen shrub is primarily grown for its handsome foliage, which if grown in full sun, is a fiery shade of red when it first emerges in spring, before turning a rich green as it ages. The conical clusters of white flowers it produces in midsummer are also pretty and add further to the plant’s appeal. A good choice for patio pots where it will provide year-round interest, it also makes an interesting (and colourful) addition to the front of a shrub border.
